1992††† Architecture and Hermeneutics, Timothy M. Johnson, SUNY graduate student, INTERFACE í92, 17th Annual Humanities and Technology Conference, Southern College of Technology, Humanities and Social Sciences Department, Northwest Atlanta Hilton Inn, Oct. 9-10, 1992.Abstract: How the science of Hermeneutics can help with the understanding of aesthetics in architecture by examining common themes in aesthetics and literature and then taking the application into architecture. The common themes are developed in view of their historical background from both fields as well as architectures traditional relationship with aesthetics. The application of Hermeneutics is explained by stripping away everything in architecture but itís meaning then applying the techniques of Hermeneutics upon what is left: a three dimensional work stack; in essence, a book in parallel form. The relationship of aesthetics to literature through architecture is brought out by development of the poetic moment.
